ChatGPT brings Chat, Work, and Codex together in one Windows desktop application. Chat is suited to questions, explanations, drafting, and everyday conversations. Work handles longer tasks such as researching information, analyzing files, and producing documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and Sites. Codex focuses on software development with repositories, local files, terminals, development tools, and review workflows.
The desktop application provides a shared starting point while keeping the workflows appropriate to each kind of task. Chat and Work conversations appear together in Recents, Projects are available from the desktop interface, and supported cloud Work conversations can continue across desktop, web, and mobile. Codex remains a separate workspace for development tasks and keeps its own history.
The built-in browser can open pages, work across tabs, download files, and use supported web tools when the user grants access. Availability of agent features, plugins, connected services, local resources, and remote workflows depends on the user's plan, region, workspace policy, and permissions. Users should review sensitive files, account access, and externally visible actions before approval.
Windows releases are maintained independently from macOS releases so each platform keeps the correct version history, architecture, package format, package size, and download record. This record uses OpenAI's complete x64 MSIX package rather than the small installer executable.
